In short
- We ask for what it takes to get a cold box to your door: name, email, ZIP and a delivery day.
- Your bag, your chosen day and your motion setting stay in your browser. They are not sent to us.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for cross-site advertising.
- We keep the link between your order and its lot code so we can reach you if a lot is ever recalled.
- Write to us to see, correct or delete what we hold.
Who we are
This notice covers the Vernier website and the orders, letters and lot lookups that start there. Vernier is a trading name of the controller named above. For anything in this notice, write to the email above.
What we collect
Only what you type into a form, and the routine technical data any website receives.
- Order request
- Name, email, ZIP code, delivery day and the items in your bag. At checkout: delivery address, phone number for the carrier, and gift details if you add a band.
- Payment
- Card details go straight to our payment processor. We never see or store the full card number.
- Release letter
- Your email address, and the date you signed up.
- Lot lookup
- The lot code you enter. In this version the lookup runs in your browser and the code is not sent to us.
- Messages
- What you write to us, for example a photo of a damaged box.
- Technical data
- IP address, browser type, pages requested and the time of the request, logged by our host.
This site loads fonts and scripts from Google Fonts, Fontshare, jsDelivr and cdnjs. Those services receive your IP address and browser details when the page loads, under their own privacy terms.
Kept on your device
The site uses your browser’s local storage, not tracking cookies, to remember three things between visits. Nothing below leaves your browser.
- vernier.bag
- The tins and jars in your bag, with sizes and quantities.
- vernier.day
- The delivery day you picked on the calendar.
- vernier.motionOff
- Whether you turned motion off in the footer.
Clear them at any time from your browser settings, or by emptying the bag and switching motion back on.
Why we use it
- To confirm your order by email, pack it on the right day and hand the box to the carrier.
- To answer you when you write, including claims for a box that arrived warm or damaged.
- To trace food safety: every order is linked to the lot codes it contained, so we can contact you if a lot is withdrawn.
- To send the release letter, only if you signed up. One letter per release; unsubscribe from any letter.
- To keep the site running and secure, and to meet tax, accounting and other legal duties.
How long we keep it
- Order records, including the lot link: as long as tax and food-safety traceability rules require.
- Release letter: until you unsubscribe.
- Messages and claims: for a limited time after the matter is closed.
- Server logs: a short rolling period.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to us from the address you used with us. We answer within the time the law sets and may ask you to confirm details from your order before we act.
Residents of California and other states with privacy laws may have further rights, such as knowing the categories of information collected and appointing an agent to ask for them. Using a right never changes the price or service you receive.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to order records is limited to the people who pack and ship. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes and contact
When this notice changes, the version and date at the top change with it. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we will email you before it applies.
Contact details are at the top of this notice.
